According to § 44 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG), all specially protected species are subject to prohibitions on access, possession and marketing (see Prohibitions).
EC certificates are required for the marketing of the species listed in Annex A of EC Regulation 338/97. For more information, see the Scientific Information System on International Species Protection.
Marketing means to buy, sell or stock for sale, offer for sale or transport, buy for commercial purposes, offer for sale, purchase or display.
These EC certificates are issued by the Lower Nature Conservation Authority upon application - after verification of lawful origin.
The EC-certificates are to be considered as an identity document and are to be given to the new owner during transport, transfer and sale.
