Verbal resignation
Leaving a church, religious or ideological community requires a declaration to the registry office of the place of residence or habitual abode. Upon presentation of a valid identification document, the declaration can be made there in person for recording.
Written resignation
In the case of a written declaration of resignation, the declarant's signature must be certified by a notary public. A written declaration of resignation must have the following content:
- First name and surname
- Date and place of birth
- Residence or habitual abode
- church, religious or ideological community from which one wishes to resign
- if known, the place and parish of baptism
Representation by proxy with regard to the submission of a declaration of withdrawal is generally permissible. Further information on this can be obtained from the registry office on request.
An effective resignation by e-mail or informal letter is not possible.
