Living culture of remembrance on Remembrance Day for the victims of National Socialism

An interactive city tour with the #ROmember app, a visit to a total of ten memorials or the science blog "Rosenheimer Miszellen": On the occasion of the "Day of Remembrance of the Victims of National Socialism" (27 January 2026), there are many opportunities in Rosenheim to actively engage in a culture of remembrance.

"The city of Rosenheim sees this anniversary as an important part of the culture of remembrance. Remembering the victims of National Socialism is both a reminder and an obligation. It is important to take responsibility - for dealing with the city's own history as well as for standing up resolutely against anti-Semitism, racism and all forms of marginalisation in the present," says Head of Cultural Affairs Wolfgang Hauck. "We are fulfilling this responsibility with the "Rosenheimer Weg", a culture of remembrance specifically tailored to the city."

In the past year, the city of Rosenheim has implemented various activities relating to the culture of remembrance. An important milestone was the online launch of the #ROmember app on 1 April 2025, which offers interactive city tours on the history of Nazi persecution in Rosenheim.

In addition, research into the history of National Socialist persecution in Rosenheim was continued in the city archives with the help of interested citizens. This is published in the academic blog "Rosenheimer Miszellen".

The city set a visible sign of remembrance in public spaces on 10 October 2025 with the installation of three memorials to those persecuted by the Nazis: for Josef Sebald, for the Maier family and for Josef Schober. There are now ten memorials in the city centre.

The city of Rosenheim will continue these activities and is expressly committed to an active and sustainable culture of remembrance - in memory of the victims of National Socialism and as a contribution to democratic, humane coexistence.
