More quality of stay at the engine shed
The locomotive shed forecourt is being completely redesigned with water, trees, seating and more bicycle parking spaces. Work on this has now begun.
"The historic engine shed is the inspiration. In the centre, we are interpreting the turntable as a round, walkable and playable area with a water feature and small fountains, which can even be used as a stage. And the paths lead from there to the engine shed in the style of the former railway tracks, so that the railway character is retained," says Lord Mayor Andreas März.
The redesign will be surrounded by a larger area for outdoor catering, additional trees and seating. Around 70 bicycle parking spaces will also be created, some of which will be covered.
"The new locomotive shed forecourt will be a new place to spend time in Rosenheim. The railway and water themes will blend in with the greenery and the stage will create a new space for art and culture," says März.
Work on the forecourt should be completed by the end of 2025. Until then, the TITANIC exhibition will only be accessible via the rear of the engine shed.
The redesign of the rear of the exhibition centre is expected to begin in early 2026. Seating will also be created here, a viewing platform installed and the footpath refurbished. This work is expected to take three to four months.
Shady trees and the water feature will also eliminate a heat island in the city centre. The measure is therefore part of the implementation of the climate change adaptation concept. It is being subsidised with urban development funds from the special "Revitalising city centres" fund.
