Cycling into Roman times - guided cycle tour to Roman archaeological sites north of the city
As part of the programme accompanying the exhibition "Romans - Faces of a World Empire" in the Lokschuppen Rosenheim, the Municipal Museum invites you to take part in an extraordinary discovery tour. Under the title "Cycling into Roman times", an expert-guided cycle tour leads to important archaeological sites and brings the region's Roman past to life on site.
On Friday, 24 April 2026 from 14:00 to approx. 16:30, the tour will take you to both sides of the Inn in the north of Rosenheim. Participating cyclists will gain vivid insights into the life, economy and travelling of the Romans in the region. Stops on the tour include Westerndorf St. Peter as an important Roman settlement and production site, Kastenfeld with further evidence of Roman settlement, the site of the historic Inn bridge as a central transport and trading hub as well as the Doblergraben and the Mühltal, landscape areas with great archaeological potential.
The tour is led by Andrea Krammer, M.A., provincial Roman archaeologist and director of the Rosenheim Municipal Museum. The meeting point is the church in Westerndorf St Peter. The participation fee is 15.00 euros.
For better planning of the event, please register in advance by e-mail to museum(at)rosenheim.de or by telephone on 08031/3658751. The tour will only take place if enough participants register and will be cancelled in the event of rainy weather; up-to-date information will then be available on the museum's website.
Further dates for the guided bike tour are Friday, 19 June 2026 and Friday, 4 September 2026. All information can be found here: Rosenheim Municipal Museum: Cycling into Roman times
