Modern grave designs and more greenery: Rosenheim's cemeteries continue to develop

The municipal cemeteries in Rosenheim are being continuously developed. With new forms of burial, targeted investment in infrastructure and increased greening, we are responding to both the needs of citizens and ecological requirements.

There is a particular focus on maintenance-free forms of burial, which are intended to relieve future generations of the burden of grave maintenance, planting and watering. For example, urn walls, a columbarium and urn graves are already available. The range will be further expanded in the near future: There will be a new area for tree burials at the cemetery in Aising from mid-2026. Single, partner and family graves will then blend into a natural environment. And at Rosenheim cemetery, historic wall graves will soon be repurposed as stylish urn sites.

The water supply has also been noticeably improved: there are new granite fountains and a new drinking water fountain near the funeral parlour. There is now also a publicly accessible defibrillator there, which ensures greater safety.

In addition, the city is focussing even more intensively on greenery in large parts of the cemetery: the existing gravel areas are gradually being converted into planted areas or lawns - a long-term project designed to cope with high summer temperatures and create a good microclimate. Since 2024, 40 new trees have already been planted, also providing shade and cooling. Further tree planting is to follow.

In this way, Rosenheim's cemeteries will become forward-looking, natural and dignified places of remembrance.
