Nazi murders of Rosenheim residents continue to be researched

In order to further research the murder of the sick as part of the so-called euthanasia crimes of the National Socialists, the city of Rosenheim is looking for relatives or descendants of victims. This is being done in coordination with the district of Upper Bavaria, after an initial inventory in the district archives identified at least 40 people from Rosenheim who fell victim to the murder of the sick.

The aim of the exchange with descendants is to determine how the knowledge about the individual victims should be dealt with appropriately in the future. The victims should also have a place in the culture of remembrance and in the documentation of the city of Rosenheim.

The Rosenheim City Archive, the Initiative for the Culture of Remembrance and Stumbling Stones in Rosenheim, the Catholic Youth Social Services Rosenheim e.V. and Lebenshilfe Rosenheim e.V. are currently researching the fates of Rosenheim victims of the murder of the sick. Relatives or descendants can contact the Rosenheim City Archive by email at archiv(at)stadtarchiv.de or by telephone on 08031-365-1439.

People with physical or mental disabilities as well as the mentally ill were affected by the systematic killings as part of the Nazi murder of the sick. According to estimates, a total of around 200,000 people were murdered for reasons of so-called "racial hygiene".
