Dispose of correctly
Rinsed honey jars in the waste glass container protect the local bees from American foulbrood. The city of Rosenheim therefore advises rinsing empty honey jars with hot water before disposing of them.
As a natural product, honey can contain pathogens that are harmless to humans but deadly to bees, especially American foulbrood. Foraging bees pick up the pathogens and spread them around their hive.
It should also be noted that both plastic bags and compostable plastic bags are unsuitable for disposal in organic waste. Even the compostable bags do not degrade quickly enough in the composting plants and have to be sorted out at great expense.
It is recommended to dispose of kitchen waste in newspaper or paper bags. Further information can be found at https://www.rosenheim.de/buergerservice/ver-und-entsorgung/abfall-muell/.
