City of Rosenheim kicks off the 2025/26 winter season
With the start of the cold season, the winter service of the municipal building depot also resumes its work: From 14 November, the team will be ready for the 2025/26 winter season.
Around 1,200 tonnes of road salt will once again be available for this purpose. Around 80 employees and 25 vehicles will ensure that 270 kilometres of roads and 60 kilometres of cycle paths throughout the city remain free of snow and ice. In addition, the winter road clearance service looks after 855 danger spots, including bus stops, pedestrian crossings and intersections.
Operations are organised according to a clearly defined priority system. Priority is given to main roads of regional importance, downhill stretches, inclines and important junctions. Roads with public transport services, danger spots, paths in pedestrian zones, bus stops and cycle paths are also prioritised. A specially purchased vehicle is available for clearing cycle lanes.
Second priority is given to side roads, paths in parks or roads and paths outside built-up areas.
The residents' obligation applies to footpaths: property owners must clear and grit adjacent footpaths between 07:00 and 20:00. Where there is no pavement, a strip about one and a half metres wide must be kept clear along the carriageway. However, the municipal winter road clearance service does not exempt residents from their obligations: For example, pavements must be secured and, if necessary, cleared and gritted by the directly adjacent property owners.
The daily winter road clearance service starts at 03:00 in the morning. As a rule, the roads are cleared and gritted before the morning rush hour and after the evening rush hour. A clearing operation takes around six hours and a gritting operation around four hours. During the day, the road is only cleared if there is an urgent need, for example in the event of heavy snowfall or black ice.
To ensure that everything runs smoothly, drivers in particular are asked to park their vehicles properly and to avoid parking at the side of the road during heavy snowfall.
The winter road clearance service's salt stocks are distributed across several locations: Two silos at the construction depot in Westerndorf St. Peter hold a total of 360 tonnes, while a further 850 tonnes or so are stored at Schloßberg.
